The process of how to blend on Procreate may seem a bit odd to some but the end result can be very pleasing. The first step in how to blend on Procreate is gaining access to the various blending tools available. Click the little Blend Options icon located above the main composition pane (usually on the far right of the screen). When you have located this icon, simply click it to open the appropriate blending application. The Blending Panel allows you to experiment with a number of different effects which include applying filters and colors, or ‘overlapping’. There are many options available to make your photographs come alive; even if you only have a very basic understanding of computer software, there are plenty of useful tutorials available online for guidance.

One of the most useful blending tools is the smudge tool; it is ideal for creating subtle gradients, adding depth and dimension to images and producing unique colors. To use the smudge tool, select the color you want to blend with the white background. You can choose from a variety of different properties, including’strength’,’strength throughout the entire range’ and ‘translucent’. Click on the little square icon to open the smudge tool. Select the center part of the image that you wish to blend.

Once the blending tool has been opened, experiment with different values for the center of the image and how you wish to blend it. Experiment with the size of the brush or how you would like to use it; it is possible to hold down the Alt/Tab keys while pressing the brush. Using the extended licence allows you to use Procreate’s amazing drawing tools such as the pen and grid, pencil and eraser and all the other usual drawing features available. These tools are extremely useful when creating custom paintings and you will be able to draw lines, shapes and a whole array of other complex objects using the same techniques as you would with paint.

Drawing and painting is fun but there are times where it gets a little too complicated for beginners to create pleasing results. If you are having difficulty learning how to apply various effects, or just want to add a little something extra to an existing painting, then the blend mode function of this powerful software is ideal. With a few simple clicks, you can create different effects and patterns, and combine them in countless ways to get some great results. Some of the commonly used blending modes are: Combine, Copy/ Paste, Bevel/ blurred and Radial gradient blend modes. The blend modes offer a wide range of flexibility when combining several objects. It is possible to simply blend one object onto another, to create a transition from one color to another, or even to create multiple pattern blends, such as to soften an edge or enhance highlights in a photograph.

When learning how to blend on Procreate, it is also possible to experiment with different blending options. For example, if you are working on a painting, you can easily change the blending mode by selecting the Blending option from the painting tool menu. The blend option can also be controlled by clicking on the Clipping Mask icon in the Procreate palette. With this handy tool, you can create interesting effects and perfect your artwork.
